Course Summary

Do you enjoy analysing texts and their meaning? Are you looking at studying VCE Literature? Year 10 Pre-Literature replaces the General English (Year 10) subject. This subject gives you a strong foundation and broader perspective for future literature studies and pathways. The subject equips you with the skills, knowledge and rigour to analyse the construction of literary texts, how authors establish meaning within their texts and expressing your interpretation of these texts. Students will begin to develop and establish the high-level literacy skills required to perform well in VCE Literature, expanding in their communication and critical thinking skills as well as establishing a broader world view for their future pathways.

Students undertaking Pre-Literature should be aware of the necessary independent reading and drafting required of this subject.

Learning Activities & Assessment

  • Rigorous exploration of key literary concepts, principles and the application of literary analysis
  • Apply literary concepts through the completion of close analysis of texts and written draft responses and interpretations
  • Use of literary perspectives and metalanguage to explore interpretations of literary texts
  • Annotation and drafting will be used throughout the subject to measure student’s growth
  • Students will develop their literary analytical thinking and writing skills through formative and summative assessment
