Course Summary

Do you speak Vietnamese at home but find it difficult to read and write? Keep your Vietnamese alive!  

Year 10 Vietnamese subject is designed for Vietnamese – background students who wish to strengthen their Vietnamese literacy, maintain connections with their language, culture and community, and prepare for success in VCE Vietnamese Language.   

The course provides a bridge between everyday spoken Vietnamese and the advanced language skills required for senior secondary study.   

Students will:  

  • improve reading and writing skills in Vietnamese  
  • strengthen speaking and listening confidence  
  • explore Vietnamese history, literature and contemporary issues  
  • develop bilingual and intercultural capabilities  
  • build foundations for VCE Vietnamese First Language and VCE Vietnamese Second Language  
  • gain valuable skills for university, careers and community engagement  

Learning Activities & Assessment

  • Prepare and present a dialogue with a friend about Vietnamese traditions and Vietnamese identity.   
  • Listen and read about Vietnamese history, literature and folklore.  
  • Research and write about contemporary youth issues.
