Course Summary

This subject is a project-based unit recommended for students intending to undertake VET Building and Construction with a focus on timber. Students will develop knowledge and practical skills in workplace health and safety (WHS), the correct and safe use of hand tools and selected power tools, and the construction of small timber-based projects. 

The major assessment task is the design and construction of a personalised storage case tailored to individual needs and interests. 

Learning Activities & Assessment

Students will complete a range of practical and theory-based tasks, including: 

  • Construction of handmade timber joints  
  • Manufacture of an oil stone case  
  • Investigation, design, production, and evaluation of a customised storage case  
  • Completion of a written and computer-based portfolio assignment documenting the design and construction process  

Assessment will focus on safe workshop practices, accuracy of construction, design development, problem-solving, and project evaluation.
