Course Summary

Open to all students, with no prior skills or experience required. This course provides students with strong foundation skills and knowledge, preparing them for a successful transition into a VET course in Year 11. 

Students train in a real salon environment right here at WSSC while learning practical industry skills including shampooing, blow-drying, styling, colouring, braiding, thermal styling, and client communication. Students also gain experience using salon tools safely, working as part of a team, managing time, and understanding how a professional salon operates day to day. 

This course goes beyond hairstyling by exploring fashion trends, sustainability, salon branding, social media, customer service, and salon business concepts through fun practical workshops, creative projects, and industry-style challenges.

  • Blow-wave and styling, Curling and straightening workshops  
  • Braiding and creative styling challenges, hair-up and festival hair design activities 
  • Hair colouring & salon role-play and client consultation scenarios  
  • Trend forecasting and mood board creation including team salon challenges  
  • Before-and-after hair photography projects
