Course Summary

This study offers pathways for students whose main interest is a combination of performing, composing/arranging and investigating music through music making, analysing and responding in relation to their particular interests. Music making is a collective and integrated experience. It involves composing, arranging, interpreting, reimaging, improvising, recreating, performing and critiquing music in an informed manner. Students develop aural skills by responding to music from a range of sources across time and place. They analyse music works and/or styles and develop an understanding of how the treatment of music elements, concepts and compositional devices in one work and/or style can be identified and explained in the works of others.

VCE: Unit 3 & 4 sequence available

Learning Activities & Assessment

  • Perform a work in the style of a selected work/creator and explain how the performance relates to the selected music style and/or creator
  • Create and/or arrange music and demonstrate the connection to the selected music style and/or creator
  • Analyse and describe the treatment of music elements, concepts and compositional devices in two works
  • Listen and respond to selected music excerpts from a range of styles
  • Externally-assessed Task (EAT) – Submit a folio that contains documentation, video recording of a performance and an audio and/or video recording of a composition/arrangement
  • End of year written examination

Do you enjoy improvising and performing? Looking at a career as a performer? In VCE Drama you will focus on creating, presenting and analysing self-devised solo and ensemble performances. You will explore real or imagined characters based on stimulus material that reflects personal, cultural and/or community experiences and stories. You will analyse your own performance work and professional performances.  You will explore a range of performance styles relevant to practices of story-telling, contemporary drama practice and the work of a variety of drama practitioners.

Course Summary

Open to all students, with no prior skills or experience required. This course provides students with strong foundation skills and knowledge, preparing them for a successful transition into a VET course in Year 11. 

Students train in a real salon environment right here at WSSC while learning practical industry skills including shampooing, blow-drying, styling, colouring, braiding, thermal styling, and client communication. Students also gain experience using salon tools safely, working as part of a team, managing time, and understanding how a professional salon operates day to day. 

This course goes beyond hairstyling by exploring fashion trends, sustainability, salon branding, social media, customer service, and salon business concepts through fun practical workshops, creative projects, and industry-style challenges.

This subject is a project-based unit recommended for students intending to undertake VET Automotive with a focus on the automotive industry. Students will develop knowledge and practical skills in workplace health and safety (WHS), the correct and safe use of hand tools and selected power tools and understanding of vehicle principles and parts identification. 

The major assessment task is the design A vehicle of the future. They will look at what the purpose and application is for their design. 

Learning Activities & Assessment

Students will complete a range of practical and theory-based tasks, including: 

  • Pull apart and reassemble small engine  
  • Investigation, design, production, and evaluation of a customised Vehicle of the future  
  • Completion of a written and computer-based portfolio assignment documenting the design and construction process  

Assessment will focus on safe workshop practices, accuracy of engine reassembly, design development, problem-solving, and project evaluation.

Students will develop knowledge and practical skills in workplace health and safety (WHS), the correct and safe use of hand tools and selected power tools, and the construction of small timber-based projects. 

The major assessment task is the design and construction of a personalised storage case tailored to individual needs and interests.

  • Construction of handmade timber joints  
  • Manufacture of an oil stone case  
  • Investigation, design, production, and evaluation of a customised storage case

Course Summary

3D Design CAD/Metal is a semester-based subject that introduces students to the principles of product design, engineering processes and advanced manufacturing technologies. Students will apply design thinking and the product design process to develop creative and practical solutions to real-world problems. 

Throughout the course, students will investigate a need or opportunity, develop a design brief, conduct research and generate ideas using both freehand and digital drawing techniques. Students will gain experience in technical drawing by hand and using industry-standard software including MS Visio, Google SketchUp and Autodesk Inventor. 

A major focus of the course is the design and production of a 3D slot car project inspired by Carrera-style racing vehicles. Students will design, prototype and manufacture components using a range of modern production technologies including 3D printing, CNC laser cutting and CNC plasma cutting. Students will also explore materials, machining techniques and assembly processes while developing practical workshop skills.

In Year 10 Media Arts, you will explore how media products are created to connect with specific audiences and purposes. You will investigate media products made by different creators and learn how camera work, composition, lighting, editing, layout and media codes and conventions are used to shape meaning. You will develop practical skills in planning, producing and presenting your own digital media products while learning how creative choices influence the way ideas and viewpoints are communicated. 

This subject is a good choice if you are interested in digital media, visual storytelling, content creation, audience engagement and the creative use of technology. It provides a foundation for future study in VCE Media, Visual Communication Design and Art Creative Practice.

Digital Technologies is designed as a pathway into VET Creative & Digital Media and introduces students to the skills, software and creative processes used in the digital media industry. 

Students will explore game development, 3D modelling, animation and web design through a range of hands-on projects using industry-standard software. They will design and develop a 3D maze game using Maya and Unreal Engine, create a 2D animation, and build a website to showcase their digital portfolio. 

Students will develop skills in creativity, communication, problem-solving and digital production while building a portfolio of work that demonstrates their technical and design capabilities.

Year 10 Vietnamese subject is designed for Vietnamese – background students who wish to strengthen their Vietnamese literacy, maintain connections with their language, culture and community, and prepare for success in VCE Vietnamese Language.   

The course provides a bridge between everyday spoken Vietnamese and the advanced language skills required for senior secondary study.

This course is a condensed version of the year 7-10 Japanese Victorian Curriculum, allowing beginners to get a grasp on this intriguing, scripted language.  It covers a range of topics and themes designed to promote communication and cultural understanding. 

The main aim of this course is to prepare students for the VCE Japanese exam. 

However, studying a foreign language can benefit you in more ways than providing a pathway to work by:
