Course Summary

Open to all students, with no prior skills or experience required. This course provides students with strong foundation skills and knowledge, preparing them for a successful transition into a VET course in Year 11. 

This exciting full-year program gives students the opportunity to train in a real barbering environment right here at WSSC while learning practical industry skills including clipper work, fading, tapering, styling, beard preparation, shampooing, and client communication. Students also learn how a professional barbershop operates day to day, building confidence, teamwork, time management, and workplace readiness along the way. 

More than just cutting hair, students explore barbering design, fashion trends, branding, sustainability, customer service, and barber business concepts through fun practical workshops, creative projects, and industry-style challenges.

Learning Activities & Assessment

  • Clipper cutting, fading and beard design workshops 
  • Traditional barbering and creative styling challenges including line design and grooming trends 
  • Men’s hair cutting, barber shop role-play and client consultation scenarios 
  • Barbering design trends, fashion trends, branding including team barber shop challenges 
  • Before-and-after barbering photography projects showcasing cuts, fades and beard transformations
