Course Summary

In this subject, students will design, plan, produce and evaluate home cooked and café style meals while developing skills and understanding in: 

  • Safe food handling 
  • Cookery methods  
  • Nutrition 
  • Foods from other cultures 
  • Food trends and future foods 
  • Sustainable and Ethical options when preparing foods 
  • Preparing and serving Café style meals and drinks for customers 
  • Menu design and preparation 

This subject provides an introduction to the following VCE/VET subjects: 

  • VCE Food Studies 
  • VET Hospitality 
  • Commercial Cookery 
  • Food and Beverage Service 

Possible career pathways include:  

  • Food Scientist, Dietician, Nutritionist, Food Product developer and Hospitality careers i.e. Chef, Waiter, Bartender, Baker
