Games Design & Coding (Year 10)

Games Design & Coding (Year 10)

Course Summary

Are you interested in creating your own games and learning how the technology behind them works? Games Design and Coding is an exciting Year 10 elective that combines creativity, problem-solving, and programming skills.

In this subject, students will explore the process of designing and developing digital games, from the initial idea through to a playable product. Students will learn coding concepts such as variables, algorithms, decision-making, loops, functions, and event-driven programming while applying these skills to create interactive games.

Throughout the course, students will investigate game mechanics, user experience, storyboarding, character design, level design, and testing techniques. They will also examine the impact of the games industry, emerging technologies, and ethical considerations in game development.

Students will develop valuable skills in computational thinking, collaboration, project management, creativity, and digital innovation. No prior coding experience is required—just an interest in technology, games, and problem-solving.

This subject provides an excellent foundation for VCE Applied Computing and Software Development subjects and technology related pathways.
